AIEF Scholarship Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 from QLD schools enjoyed learning about different types of employment at the Careers Experience Day in Brisbane.
Students started at the Aboriginal Centre of Performing Arts in Fortitude Valley where they learned about the audition process to be accepted into a Diploma in Performing Arts (across music, singing, acting and dance).
The group toured rehearsal rooms, the aerial circus space and observed vocal warm ups and a fitness dance workshop in action.
Staff from AIEF Corporate Partner Qantas hosted a session on the opportunities available at Qantas across various sectors including the tourism, hospitality and aviation industries.
As part of a simulation activity, groups worked together to create a superhero to combat issues in the community. Each group had to present their superhero creations and learned how Qantas uses these assessment sessions to look for group work and collaboration, leaders within the group and presentation skills among potential candidates.
Students also gained insights into the pathways in the Australian Defence Force with a presentation from two currently serving members of the army. They shared their journeys to the ADF and their most rewarding moments, highlighting Gallipoli services and assisting in Fiji after the cyclone. The students then participated in some physical activities, gaining an understanding of the expectations of army life.
These experiences are designed to assist students in learning about the skills and qualifications they will need for the future, and to hone their ideas about the kind of roles they would like to pursue on completing high school.
