On 1 September over 30 AIEF Scholarship Students from 14 Partner Schools in WA, VIC and NSW attended the Year 12 Learn It! Live It! Work Readiness Workshop held at the Sydney offices of AIEF Corporate Partner Allens.
The workshop is designed to help students gain the skills and knowledge they need to make a successful transition from school to careers and students took part in sessions on financial literacy, presented by the Commonwealth Banks Start Smart Foundation and a session on interview techniques, presented by Allens. Musician Jessie Lloyd presented a culture and identity module, performing a selection of songs from the Torres Strait Islands, Darwin, Moree and Palm Island alongside some of her own compositions, while discussing perspectives on Indigenous cultural identity. In another session, Brand New You provided tips about personal presentation and interview techniques.
To conclude the day AIEF Alumni were invited to speak to the students about their experiences since they completed Year 12, including challenges and how they overcame them; what they have enjoyed the most since leaving school; and their goals and dreams for the future.
