On Friday, 7 September 2012 AIEF organised the first AIEF Tertiary Experience Day to prepare senior students for their tertiary studies and present a range of opportunities available to them. Eight Year 12 students from AIEF Partner Schools in Sydney visited The University of New South Wales (UNSW), Macquarie University and The University of Sydney.

Each visit included tours of the universities’ Indigenous education units and some residential colleges such as AIEF’s tertiary partner, Shalom College at UNSW. The students met university and college staff and also had a chance to speak to Indigenous students residing at the colleges about their experiences.

For the students, the day was a real eye-opener as they gained great insights into university and college life and obtained invaluable information about the scholarships available within each college and university. One student commented afterwards, “I feel relieved that I know university is possible now.”
