Over 20 AIEF Scholarship Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 spent the day exploring the University of Technology, Sydney and Ultimo TAFE at the AIEF Tertiary Experience Day in Sydney on Friday 24 May.
Students learned about university life and course options, and heard from staff at Jumbunna speak about opportunities and support provided to Indigenous students at UTS.
AIEF Alumni Josh Hogan (St Gregorys College Campbelltown, 2014), Rhiannon Carr (Kincoppal-Rose Bay School, 2017), Randall Mumbulla (The Scots College, 2018) and Sarah Treacy (Loreto Normanhurst, 2012; Tertiary Scholar) took part in a panel discussion where they discussed their university experiences, answered questions and offered advice to the students.
In the afternoon, students formed teams and competed in an Amazing Race, working together to solve a series of puzzles before navigating their way to the Ultimo TAFE campus.
Staff at Ultimo TAFE spoke with students about the differences between TAFE and university, options for study and the support networks offered. Students finished the day with a tour of the campus and explored the nursing, hospitality, signwriting and automotive trade faculties.
