AIEF hosted the Explore and Connect AIEF Networking Day on Wednesday 22 May 2013 with 63 students and staff members from AIEF Partner Schools from QLD, WA and VIC. The students visited the set of the prominent Australian series Redfern Now. Students watched camera crews, actors and directors shoot scenes within the famous Redfern location of The Block. Whilst on set, students spoke to actors and producers of the show and heard about their stories of being in the film industry. Additionally, Miranda Tapsell, actress from The Sapphires, and Darren Dale, Producer of Redfern Now, facilitated a Q & A session in which all students were engaged, asking questions about their roles in film, how they got to where they are now and their aspirations and dreams that drive them. One student reflected on the Q & A session, It was fun meeting Indigenous role models and listening to what they spoke about. Students had lunch on set and then met their teachers, who had enjoyed productive networking lunches with fellow AIEF Partner School representatives in the meantime, for some free time to explore parts of Sydney city. To top off the day, a dinner was held where students and teachers enjoyed a delicious meal and enjoyed engaging in a few fun activities including trivia and bingo facilitated by AIEF. One student summed up their whole experience with, Deadly day! alongside a teacher quoting, A wonderful feeling to the day it was delightful that there were so many schools represented.
