Perth College 2024 Report
Sarah McGarry

Perth College is an Anglican all-girls school located in Perth, Western Australia, educating students from Pre-Kindergarten through to Year 12. We are deeply committed to respecting, valuing, and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, fostering a strong sense of belonging and cultural identity within our community through inclusive practices and diverse relationships. Our role in the collective journey toward reconciliation is a priority for us.

Our Indigenous program, called the Djook Djinda Group or Sister Stars, involves 34 students, including both day and boarding students in Years 3 to 12. Presently, three students in our Junior School are actively engaged in this program and are recognised and supported by their Senior School peers. Perth College promotes a positive school culture that nurtures care, safety, and a strong sense of Indigenous student identity. We ensure all our students receive the support they need to reach their potential and explore career pathways.

Perth College offers numerous opportunities for students, staff, and families to connect with and celebrate Indigenous culture and acknowledge Indigenous history. Our educators possess the skills and knowledge to effectively engage with and build relationships with Indigenous students.

Every year, we celebrate PC NAIDOC and Reconciliation Week, during which the Djook Djinda Group plays a crucial role in organising a variety of activities. These events provide our school community with opportunities to learn, celebrate, and connect with the community and the land. The group meets regularly in the Ngala Maya room, their dedicated space, to discuss and plan their participation in these celebrations. This room fosters connections among Indigenous students, staff, and their cultural identities.
